Jack,

I neglected to mention that for that serial number (360274) a Cartouche date of 1887 (there were some 34,869 Model 1884s made in 1887 and only 14,997 manufactured in 1886) would be more like it, and that was about the transition time between the Breech Blocks being stamped "U.S./MODEL/1873" and "U.S./MODEL/1884". And the Model 1884 "BUFFINGTON" Rear Sight would be correct, as would the Model 1878 Cleaning Rod with the "cupped" forward end. But is almost definitely a Model 1884 Service Rifle (one of the 148,796 produced).
