1873 rear sight

Posted by Bob Smith on Tuesday, 29 June 2010, at 4:09 p.m.

I've had an 1873 "Trap Door" rifle for some 50 years. My son & I have become interested in shooting at a large 5X7 tarp target. We've advanced out to a measured 350 yds. I have a spotting scope & can see were hitting the tarp, but all over the target. The gun has the original rear ladder sight. Is their any info. on the settings of this sight? Would a Buffington rear sight be better for accuracy? I've read that the Buffington has some wind calculation adjustments built in.

Thanks,

Bob
