Re: Verified Custer carbine?

To the best of my knowledge, such a marking has not previously been reported. Unit-marked arms are quite rare in that period, and, when found, they are usually on "soft" metal, such as the buttplate, or trigger plate. And, of course, the choice of regiment was almost predictable - after all - who would pay the big bucks for a 2ndCav carbine?

Actually the gun doesn't look bad, nor does 33000 just above it. But, with Greg, you just never know - he has offered some mighty "funny" stuff over the years.

I question that 18xxx is a particularly "hot" range, and, FWIW, I have more than twice as many such entries as he notes, so, he is NOT using the "largest database"! Oh, well.
