I see that I provided some erroneous data. No JSA/1901 marks have been seen, though 7000 rifles WERE altered to cadets that year. I apologize for working from memory.

I still believe the arm was NOT new-made, and especially NOT with an 1873 (even if you meant 1879) rear sight. No such arms are listed in the RCOs, as "manufactured" during that period. And, the SRS data shows usage, NOT manufacture - plus there is always the old caveat about nothing short of an EXACT SRS hit determines usage of a particular rifle.

Bottom line, you have a nice rifle, with an "interesting" cartouche - probably obtained at a very reasonable price. Enjoy.
