The (sometimes not so pretty) trigger guards cannot be relied upon as the SOLE arbiter of carbine reality, since SA themselves reworked musket bows for MANY carbines, Usually they turned out looking OK, but not always. A really ugly guard should make you look further, but it shouldn't kill an otherwise perfectly-OK piece.

Also, I do not believe that guard-bow orientation is proof-positive of anything. Even if they were all meant to go the same way - of which I'm not certain - logic tells you that plenty of "good" bows may have been reversed for one reason or another.
