S.; gun plate, spread eagle with U. S. Springfield engraved; carved inscription initials LWP date 18_7; metal shoulder plate capital letters U. S; hinged cover reveals two cartridge holder; wooden gun butt number 65 is carved with four capital letters, GSNY; gun butt61 are written, followed by a capital D
