Re: Front sight on 1873 trap door

The Buffington rear sight uses a taller front sight blade than the Buckhorn rear sight. This is very important to remember.

This difference will change the POA if the Buffington sight is installed on a barrel with a blade set for the Buckhorn sight.

There are no markings on front sight blades. Once you see the difference in the blades you can spot 'em on any rifle. The Cadet rifle uses the same front blade as the rifle. SA must not have thought this to be a problem because Cadet rifles would not have been issued to the Regular troops for battle use.
