It does seem a bit picky doesn't it? However, I just wanted to get another opinion on the designation. I had guessed M1877 since it had the trap butt-plate, the 1873 markings, and the 1882 SWP date, but there was that sense of confusion when looking at publications such as THE BLUE BOOK OF GUN VALUES and FLAYDERMAN'S where everything must fit in a slot. Then there is the Buffington sight with the guard that pushed it out to 1890. THEN THERE IS THE STAR after the s/n! How confusing!
