Larry I am no expert like some of the others on this web site but I also have a trapdoor rifle with a 1873 marked breech block. I have found the serial number of my rifle in the SRS books and have received a letter on my rifle from Mr. Mallory of SRS. The letter states that my rifle was issued during the SA war. The SRS book listed my rifle as model 1884 but it did have a breech block marked 1873. If you want to list your rifle serial number, I will look to see if that number is in the SRS books and see what info they may have on yours. Jim Stewart
