Re: Custer Era Crap Shoot

Thanks, Jim. I'll be interested to hear the details. Super price! I've had my three for a LONG time - 16572 was only $185, but that was in 1971!

Up until now, there has been a lot of insinuation and innuendo, in which I admit to participating, but the seller in question has finally made the mistake of dealing with someone (of modest stature and soft-spoken demeanor) who, at 80+, still has a full set, and is prepared to go all the way to recover his money.

The serial number has been reported here before - of course, it is REALLY A17WXY (I chose my unknowns poorly, W & Y are clear, X is one of two possibilities, but A is gone).

Until further notice, I am removing ALL carbine numbers associated with this seller from the registry. That will cost me 24 entries (yes, he's been busy) but I'd rather err on the side of conservatism.

What disturbs me even more is that the very arm in question here MAY have been vetted by a friend of mine (who is an 1873 expert) at Denver in 2008. I CANNOT believe he could have missed what was SO painfully obvious. I'll try and clear that up.
