Yes, you ARE new enough to the trapdoor world to not realize that "Buffington" IS the correct term for the last (1884) model of TD rear sight! Big grin! It followed the "buckhorn" Model 1879.

"Bannerman" has nothing to do with any specific type of sight. Guns ASSEMBLED by the firm of Bannerman & Sons (and others) are frequently found with incorrect sights. I believe THAT is the fact you were trying to recall!

You gun MUST have the M1884 "Buffington" sight - there is NO possibility that "left-over" parts were somehow used. I'm sure you will also want to replace the bayonet - yes, they DID come to a point.

Speaking of points, a good one is to "buy the book before you buy the gun". The hard times have made this a buyer's market right now; there was no need to rush. $20 for a book would have saved you around $150 in NEEDED replacement parts. And, in said market, there is NO shortage of campletely correct M1888s.

Sorry to preach, but maybe the next guy will learn.
