Educate yourself on this rifle by getting your hands on one of the Trapdoor books from Mr. Hosmer, Mr. Frasca, Mr. Poyer, etc.

Do Not attempt to "restore" the rifle. Clean it only & protect the metal surfaces from rust. Clean the rifle as you would any other firearm. Surface rust can be removed with Stainless Steel wool but DO NOT over do it on pressure. Many have attempted to restore older rifles only to ruin the value of the piece. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" has always been the best advise we can give you.
