Hello Jeff - - Although being an old Rhode Islander (a Providence boy until I moved here to Pittsburgh in 1959 to start my job with Westinghouse), I didn't have "TRAPDOOR connections" until I started (back into) collecting in 2001. The only person I know (and not even well at all) who be of help would be Officer Richard T. Colton, a member of the National Park Service custodial force at the Springfield Armory National Historical Site in Springfield, Massachusetts. Richard also serves as the Site Museum Historian and was my tourguide when I took the Armory Museum tour in April of 2004. He is quite knowledgable, and there is also a sort of "caretaker" group called THE FRIENDS OF THE SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MUSEUM which raises funds for the upkeep (beyond what they receive in allocations from The U.S. Department of the Interior) and puts out a quarterly Newsletter. The "FRIENDS" CAN BE REACHEWD AT:

FRIENDS OF THE SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MUSEUM, c/o Springfield Armory National Historic Site, One Armory Square, Suite 2, Springfield, Massachusetts 01105-1299 (413) 734-8551 []

For a nominal contribution [as an INDIVIDUAL it is $ 40.00] they will put you on the Membership Roster and send you the NEWSLETTER. This does get you a "foot in the door" and access to other collectors and a list of their several related WebSites, including the one for the Armory's extensive collection. The current Membership Secretary is a gentleman named John Plaster.

There is a list of TRAPDOOR shooters maintained here on this WebSite, including one gentleman who lives in Hope Valley, Rhode Island, who is quite an authority on TRAPDOORS and hand-loads his own black powder ammunition. If I can think of anybody else I will post their name/address/telephone number.

Best regards,
