From that serial number and date (which do match correctly) it almost has to be a Model 1884 Cadet Rifle, type 2. They have 29-5/8" barrels, and were made for use at West Point and othe colleges. They were the very last block of TDs made. Production ended at about 568000.

If the barrel length is 32-5/8", it is a (so-called) Model 1888 Rifle, with sliding rod-bayonet. The "Model 1884" marking is correct in either case.
