Eldon, I am no means an authority on trapdoors, just a guy with alot of interest in them People like Al Frasca and Dick Hosmer who have studied and handled hundreds of trapdoors the past 4 decades are the real authority. Much information can be obtained thru them AND their websites. Books by the dozens have been published about trapdoors. It is in your interest to research trapdoors in general, then decide what model or models you want to go further with. If someone of knowledge says that what you have isn't what you think it is, don't be offended, consider it a lesson learned and appreciate your gained knowledge. Why do you want to replace the front sight? If you are making your rifle an 'heirloom' to be passed on to future descendants, find as much info about it for them. Replacing parts with original ones is fine, but, don't do it unless it is necessary. Dick Hosmer, on his website www.picturetrail.com/sa4570, has mucho info. Above all, ask questions.
