thank you for your help. If you have read the past 5 or 6 postings regarding this carbine, it seems probable that this carbine was issued in 1874 to [CO.F 6th]at Fort Dodge, as the cartouches suggest. As was mentioned by other respondents, it is also probable that later [co.F.6TH] was attached to Gen. Crook in the indian wars. With the 3 digit serial #, and the militia cartouches, it is all I can go on, and seems logical. If anyone knows any more it would be appreciated. Thankyou ....
