Re: krag from mallory's book

Page 90 in old book; 103 in new, but neither is identified by serial number.

The arm does have the scarce 1898 sight (three notches, and a "C", on eyepiece) and your serial number is proper for that era. I have one just like it myself (227697, pictured on my website) and the late Bill Mook had one very close - 227861, IIRC.

It is always a nice little "plus" to have a gun which has been "published". Did you get any written provenance, or was it just a story from the dealer? If you buy it, and he sticks with the claim, make him put it in writing, since the book is silent, and the photo(s) really do not show any truly unique wood grain or other immediately obvious distinguishing marks.
