By "black powder gun" I assume you mean you thought you had been given a muzzle-loader?
Your rifle was probably manufactured in 1876. The breechblock MAY have been replaced, as that is rather early for that marking. I would have expected "Model / 1873 / eaglehead / crossed arrows / U.S."
Caliber is .45-70. Ammunition is readily available - the type sold for "Cowboy Action Shooting" would be best to start with. That is just a generic term - the rifle was used by the Army, not cowboys.
