More info: on the Breech block it has 1873 with what looks like an eagle with crossed arrows... just a little higher it has a large "A" stamped just above the breech. On the side leftside of the weapon just below where the breech meets the barrel there is "NJ" stamped. It's my interpretation that it could mean A co. of the NJ National Guard... No signs to my knowledge of a cartouche. Thanks
