Stephen, You are thinking of the "CHRONOLOGICAL LIST OF ACTIONS &c. WITH INDIANS from JANUARY 15, 1837 TO January, 1891" published by the ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE" Washington D.C. Heitmans is of value for the history of Officers comissioned to the U.S. army but lists no battles unless it lead to said officers death. Also the soldier had to have been in one of the battles listed to be issued the INDIAN WARS CAMPAIGN MEDAL first issued by request in 1908. Hope this helps, you might see if your local library can obtain this publication thru the inte-library loan system.
