I have fired my 1884 a lot. A friend that was familiar with the 45-70 trapdoor made me a couple of boxes of ammo. He used solid lead bullets, and powder that was as close to the original as possible . He thought store bought 45-70's are made for modern weapons and may be too powerful for the old guns . He has since passed on and took a wealth of information with him .
