I knew some were cut, but did not understand that it was "all". If his is, fine, that's where the joint goes - just get a new forend, for about $90. If not, it would then make sense to determine how the originals were done, and copy it.

His action is really pretty nice - LIGHT frost of red/brown fuzz - the kind that just disappears with solvent and 0000 steel wool - the expensive/scarce bits seem to be there. The more I think about it, I'd say a restoration IS doable, at reasonable cost.
