Ernie, Thanks for the response . It has 3 lands and grooves . It also has a buffington sight . Were they using that sight in 1883. This rifle isn't a collector's item because of the forend of the stock being shortened , but I wouldn't trade it for one that is , I've owned it for 55yr. and I'm just now getting it to shoot well . If it doesn't rain or snow tomorrow I'm going to take it out and shoot 200yd. Thanks Gene
