Personally, I'd rather have a badly-rusted firearm than one which had been abused by the application of Naval Jelly! No - I am NOT kidding.

Nothing even comes close to imparting the phony look that NJ puts on a rifle, except that coarse wire-brushing on a powered wheel will give about the same disgusting effect.
