Replacing the stock

Posted by Randy on Tuesday, 29 September 2009, at 9:11 p.m.

I have a Model 1873 Carbine. The lock is stamped with the year 1884 and near the butt plate is stamped with the number 99 or 66. My question is this: The shooting mechanisms are functional but the stock is not repairable. Should I replace it? If so, where would I find a stock to work with. Also, the blueing is less than perfect and I would also me tempted to refinish. Opinions?
