last night i posted about a 1873 Springfield trapdoor, sn 379198, seeking any info i might find--this has been in family at least close to 100 years or more-in Tennessee--it seems to be a carbine, no patched holes for the cleaning rod, but it does has a sliding plate in butt plate and hollow stock where the cleaning rod should be stored. The back sight is stamped "C" and the front sight looks original. However, i can find no cartouche whatsoever. the only marking i can tell for sure on the stock is a carved sabre. Any help or info would be appreciated. My dad when he was a kid did try shooting .410 shells (field load) a couple of times but never attempted to shoot any of the brass 45-70 shells he had--again these had wooden instead of lead projectiles. thanks -will-
