Re: 1884 Springfield carbine

Regret to advise that your "carbine" apparently started life as a Model 1888 (yet actually marked 1884) rod-bayonet rifle, or a Model 1884 Type 2 cadet rifle. The receiver was made in late 1891 or early 1892, while the last run of 5000 carbines were made in 1889, having numbers in, roughly, the 450xxx range. There is no data recorded for that exact serial number.
