1884 Springfield carbine

Posted by Rourke Brown on Sunday, 24 May 2009, at 7:58 p.m.

I've been given a U.S. Springfield trapdoor carbine model 1884. The serial is 533326. The only other markings I can find are the US stamped on the top of the butt plate and the US SPRINGFIELD with the engraved eagle on the lock plate. Can anyone tell me any info on this carbine. Also someone at sometime in the distant past has added a adjustable rear peep sight, at least I think it has been added. Not sure but in the minimal research that I have done I haven't seen a picture of one with the peep sight. Once again any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
