You are correct to some degree. For purposes of dating TD's we are inclined to use the SA serial number production stats. Of course the rifles were assembled at a later date than the receivers were made & numbered.

There are a few examples of rifles/carbines being assembled with receivers from "the bottom of the bin". This will throw the actual DOM off but there is no way of knowing exactly what rifles/carbines feel into this lot.

I say if your TD's serial number & date stamp agree as to year, well & good.
