Yes, and that caused some negative comment during the trials; they thought it was a safety matter. It would seem simple to me that you would make your sight adjustments in-between shots, with the block open, but they still raised a squawk . The sights, for the 24 LR rifles so equipped, were purchased from Sharps. The rear vernier design was patented by Hugo Borchardt. I discovered that from reading Frank Sellers' excellent Sharps book.

The front sight has interchangeable inserts - the one presently installed is a small aperture. It is "frozen" in place and would probably take considerable effort to remove, so I'm not even going to try. :-)

The Sharps-sighted LRRs are all in the 162000 range (lowest known is 162001; highest 162048. Mine is 162036.
