Springfield 1873 Carbines (LBH?)

Posted by Amy on Saturday, 21 February 2009, at 9:06 p.m.

My grandfather was an avid gun collector and had 2 1873 Springfield carbines that he had purchased. He did extensive (book) research on the guns, and I have picked up where he left off. He believes that at least one of them was used at LBH. One has a serial number that is only 9 digits off from a verifiable Custer gun. Serial #'s are 36451 and 37857. He believed one had been in Indian possession at some point, due to markings on the gun. It is in its original condition (not modified with new sight or stock from the recall). I am wondering if anyone has ideas on whether or not a ballistics test could be done on the gun-if there is anyone/anywhere to send the bullets to to have them compared to the historical evidence gathered at LBH? I really appreciate any advice.
