You MAY have found a cut-off rifle! Does the wood itself have a trap under the plate? Is there a filled rod groove in the front of the stock?

At the very least you appear to have a mixture of parts from different time periods.

But, there definitely should be a number across the rear top edge of the receiver, just to the left of the hammer whem you are looking down from the top. I'm always amazed by the number of people who cannot find this, but then have NO trouble reading it once they look in the right place. :-)
