Looks like the reciever was manufactured/stamped in OCT-DEC. 1882. High # for the prior qtr. was 185569.

That does not mean that the carbine was assembled then. Check the Cartouche on the left side of the stock just behind the rear side plate screw. This is the best indication of date of manufacturer.

I am now finding TD's that actually have serial numbers dating after the cartouche. Makes me wonder if someone has been assembling rifles from parts. It happens.

Dating TD's by the serial # is an iffy thing. But, that's all we have most of the time to go on.

I suggest sending closeup photos to Dick H. or Al for inspection.
