I have been using Pyrodex RS for years in my .45-70 cartridges and only clean up with nylon bristle brush, water/citrus patches, and soapy hot water. All my barrels look pretty clean to me. After thousands of rounds, my best all around combination is 62.5 grains of Pyrodex FFg, .030 Veggie wad, 435 grain Hollow Base, and SPG lube. Yields 1440 fps (chrono set at 15') out of my rifles and 1385 fps out of my carbine length guns. Oh yea, use Bore Butter after cleaning. I have even called Hodgdons on using water, they said "ok", didn't embelish anymore.
