I use FFG American Pioneer Powder. It makes lots of smoke and does not promote corrosion as readily as Pyrodex. The manufacturer claims the residue is a self-lube... take that as you will (I still use SPG.) Triple 7 is good too, but pressure ramps up beyond 55 grains... which I believe is the manufacturer's recommended load for the 45-70. On a subjective level, I find the report and shove of Triple 7 to be a bit sharper than APP.
