Re: Trapdoor receiver strength w/COW

Have to thank Dick for the very nice compliment. Yes I did have the pop open problem on both my H&Rs; the OM and a LBH Carbine. I replaced the breech blocks on both with originals. Takes a little fitting but is not difficult. I posted the instructions here. If you want them and can't find with a "search" here then let me know and I can email or post again.

Besides replacing the BB on my OM I have added other parts that make it as close to an original OM as possible (I think). I have added an original M1879 Typpe III rear sight and a Beech front sight. I also took the pistol grip adaptor off the LBH and put it on the OM. Mine also is a marvelous shooter as Dick mentions his is. With the .458" groove depth barrels made of modern steel they can shoot all of the current .457-.459" cal commercial cast and all .45-70 jacketed bullets. It also is perfect for all current 45-70 molds up through 500 or so gr.

My OM is my most shot rifle. Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to the range with a friend who just purchased a Pedersoli M1873 Infantry rifle. I will take the OM and we'll get a good side by side comparison.

Anybody measured the groove depth of the Pedersoli 3 groove barrels? Their web site gives .458" for their 6 or 8 groove barrels but no mention of what the 3 groove diameter is.
