65-68 Allin Springfield Trapdoor

Posted by Dr John Carlo on Monday, 9 February 2009, at 6:21 p.m.

A neighbor lady asked me if I had any Idea what her old gun was worth. It looked like a regular U S Springfield trapdoor until I got it home and couldn't figure out why it was stamped 1863 on the side when the Gun wasn't made at that time. I haven't measured the barrel but the serial number is 36278 and appears on the barrel and receiver. The right hand side of the receiver is marked 1863 and also the number 2405. Would any of you gentlemen have any idea what the value of this could be. It has surface rust but probably could be fired with black powder cartridges and tied to a tree. Any help would be appreciated. thank you
