The "2" does not appear on all plates. Allegedly it means the lock has a two-notch tumbler. Yours is late enough that it may have a three-notch tumbler.

Two screws in the buttplate, as you describe, is normal.

The walnut dowel (actual looks like a long elliptical smear is in the forend - it was to fill the ramrod groove.

The circular mark behind the trigger plate is the firing proof-mark, a circled "P". Small letters do sometimes occur there - though I cannot say I have ever seen them on a Forager.
