I am a shooter. I apprecite Dick's concern as it is a valid one. However, in this case I agree with you that it could be returned to a serviceable condition without to many qualms. I would love nothing better than to shoot it even if only the reciever were "Custer era". Just to hold it and look down at that reciever would be enough for me. Since I doubt I'll ever get to shoot an "original Custer era" carbine that would be close enough for me. Just my thoughts as Dick said; "it's your call."
