U.S. MODEL of 1867 CADET RIFLE .50-70 single shot, no serial number. The bore is fair with some old pitting. The exterior metal is mottled gray with evidence of old pitting on the barrel bands, forend tip, buttplate and trigger guard. The stock is correct - long wrist, short comb, shortened to cadet length. The stock has faint evidence of a large W in a circle cartouche opposite the lock; it also has initials LJ @ 1/2" high shallowly carved in the butt 3" ahead of plate on left side, & the number 290 stamped 1" above the plate on the right hand side of the butt; no other cartouches are in evidence. There is a crack ahead of the lock and running below it, as well as some chipping at the heel of the butt plate. The lock is dated 1867 and the markings are very sharp. The breech block is dated 1866, has the lightening cuts and much of its dark oil-quenched color. The breech also has some pitting.
