M73 Rifle, SN94810

M73 Rifle, SN94810

This rifle was produced in late 1877 or early 1878 based on the serial number. It is one of the last narrow receivered arms produced at Springfield. The receiver and block have square corners and the block has the low arch with the logo U.S./Model/1873. The rifle has a very faint SWP/1881 cartouche and circled P firing proof is missing. The bore in the rifle is extremely nice with deep rifling, no pitting and no dark areas. It is very shiny, and there is a little chatter at the start of the rifling. The M79 sight is mounted with the Armory's slotless screws, and there is a snap-on front cover around the solid front sight. The metal is very nice and there is color case on the block and tang. The stock has been lightly sanded. $795 + S/H
