M73 Rifle
M73 Rifle SN74371
This is one of the last rifles made in 1876. It has the ESA
cartouche and the SHORT wrist. This is one of many in this serial number
range that are found with the ESA cartouche and the short wrist. This
confirms that the wrist change came in late 1876 and the
introduction of the carbine holes in the butt came atthe beginning of
1877 (around SN78000). This rifle has the third version of the M73
cleaning rod
and the M73 rear sight, mounted with slotless screws. The cartouche and
firing proof are deep
indicating the stock has not been sanded. It has a dated lock plate and
the Type II hammer. The bore in the gun is shootable, but it has a lot of
scale, but no pitting. This is a very rare and collectible rifle
$750 + S/H.
