A Model 1888
rifle with an excelllent stock and very good hardware.
This M88 has not seen much, if any, service. The condition of the
breech and stock indicates the gun has been in storage for most of
its life. There are no regimental markings on it. The inside of the
breech is like new and the color case on the inside of the block and
tang face is very strong.
The color of the hardened receiver and breech block is not from
cleaning, but
from some chemical reaction caused by sunlight, preservatives or both.
The stock has VERY few
dings and a bright finish. The barrel is mostly blue with some brown
appearing along the top of the barrel between the barrel bands. The bore
is pristine!!
This rifle has a sharp SWP/1891 cartouche, and it has a clear and sharp
circled P.
