Model 1888 Round Rod Bayonet Rifle
A Model 1888 (SN519036)
rifle with an excellent stock and hardware. This M88 has seen
little to no service and has some color case on the outside of the block
and tang, but strong color case on the inside. The breech has some
hardened grease
from long term storage.
The stock on this rifle is deeply cartouched
SWP/1891, and it has a crisp
and deep circled P. The stock is the typical dark red Springfield color
with very few dings from service and storage. The metal parts are
deep in the stock, so
it
has not been sanded.
The barrel has most of its blue with some patina starting to appear
along the top of the barrel. There is no pitting or visible corrosion on
the barrel. The muzzle seems to have some scratches.
The V/P/Eagle/p stamping is sharp.
The bore is excellent with very deep and sharp rifling. The bore is a
little dull to be considered pristine, but it appears to be unfired.
