M69 Cadet Rifle
SN3418
M69 Cadet Rifle, SN3418
This is a very solid M69 Cadet Rifle. The gun is one of the
345, M69 Cadet rifles refurbished in early 1881. The COO requested
in December 1880, that 345, M69 Cadet rifles be refurbished and made ready
for issue. A January 31, 1881, letter states that 303 of the 345 were
ready for issue with their bayonets. The other 42 were not ready,
nor were the bayonets. These refurbished guns can be found with
new or steamed stocks The steamed stocks show the original stampings
as raised
and the 1881 stampings as recessed. This gun has a new stock and
there is no indication of the original ESA or boxed L stamp. This
is a fine example of an M69 Cadet and the bore is very good, but not
mint.
