M86 Carbine, SN430631
M86 24" Carbine (XC), SN340631
This is one of a thousand 24" experimental carbines made for both services.
The exterior condition of this carbine is typical of 24" carbines returned from service.
They were given both military and non-military assignments and were refinished
many times in the field. The Ohio Work House had at least 50 of these carbines
until the 1950's, and many were assigned to the Cincinnati Home Guard during WWI.
The stock shows signs of use and refurbishment. The bore in the gun is very shootable.
I would call the bore, "Very Good". This carbine, like the other 1000 produced have a
characteristic irregularity in the muzzle crown which is a shoulder on the outside
edge indicating the crowning machine was not made to crown the thicker muzzle of the 24" carbine.
