M86 XC 24" Carbine, SN340508
This M86 XC Carbine has excellent rifling with a few very light lengthwise scratches that are minor.
The rifling is deep and sharp. The exterior has been lightly sanded as is the case with almost all
of these carbines since they were used and redone several times during their service career. The box
outline of the cartouche is there and the outline of the firing proof is barely visible. The block
and tang have some color case and the carbine has the original long rods and HSE in the butt.
The rods are original and VERY rare. These carbines were used into the 1920's and refurbished several
times. The Buffington XC sight has a unique locking mechanism for the slider. The sight uses the
early locking screw with the thin shaft, but the ladder is not cut to flex and lock the slider.
There is a cut in the top of the sight in line with the leaf that somehow performs the locking and
leaves a drag mark on the underside of the slider. Very interesting and not previously known.
The carbine also has the characteristic, and unique muzzle crown with a shoulder on the outside edge.
