M73 Carbine
M73 Carbine SN19003
This is an early carbine that falls into the range of 3rd, 5th, 9th
and 10th Cavalry
carbines. However, there is no conformation that any one of them had
possession of the carbine. The carbine appears to be correct as produced with the slotless
screws holding the M73 carbine sight. The front sight has the hidden pin
and the butt plate is the early type with the rib. The trigger plate is
the M64 and the bow is on correctly. The lock has a two position tumbler
and the 1873 date along with the Type I hammer. The cartouche is ESA in
the right location. The long wrist stock does NOT have a circled P firing
proof. The stock has not been sanded, so the circled P was never on the
stock. However the inspector's stamp is there and the cartouche was
stamped with a razor sharp tool making the very thin and sharp cartouche.
The block is the early type with the arched clearance for the firing pin.
The clean and undamaged cartouche indicates that the sling ring was off
the
gun for most of its life. The bore in the carbine is very dark with
visible rifling, but having some patches of obvious corrosion.
$4350 + S/H.
