M77 Carbine
SN181554*
M77 Carbine, SN181554*
.
U.S. Model of 1877 carbine, serial #181554*. A star-marked carbine - not
rare, but not common either. The bore is Very Good with some evidence of
old pits, but still shiny and very shootable. The barrel is marked with
the large "V", "P" and eagle head proofs. There is very little blue
remaining on the barrel, barrel band, triggerguard and plate, or the
buttplate. It has all faded to patina. The breechblock is marked "U.S."
over "Model" over "1873". It still has a lot of black case color which
has worn thin over the high edges. The rear sight is an 1879 carbine
sight and so marked. The lock has a three-notch tumbler and the plate is
marked with the eagle, "U.S." over "Springfield" over "1873". The
lockplate has about 20% blue remaining. The stock is rough with chips
missing on both sides of the tang. It has many dents, dings and a few
gouges. It has a small crack ahead of the rear lock bolt on the left
side. There is no visible cartouche but there is a faint outline of the
"P" in a circle firing proof. The oval butt trap contains an original
three-piece cleaning rod.
