M77 Carbine, SN137156

M77 Carbine, SN137156

This Carbine was produced at Springfield in 1880 along with almost 15,000 other carbines. The bore is spotless with deep rifling and sharp edges. It is like new except it is not as shiny as some. The sight is mounted with the armory slotless screws and the front sight blade is correct. The 1881 cartouche and the firing proof are sharp and clear. The cartouche and firing proof are so sharp and clear, I do not believe the stock has been sanded. Theoretically, the carbine should have an 1880 cartouche. Possibly stocks were switched in the National Guard barracks during the Span-Am War. The carbine has MASS stamped on the top of the receiver. There is one piece of the stock missing above the lock and one drying crack forward of the lock. $1595 + S/H
